From The Window

Lying on my side, facing the window of my room
I watched a large orange tomcat as he chased and played
With a green and tan lizard near a rose bush
And finally feasting upon its flesh.

He then walked slowly away
Oblivious of what had transpired
That one of nature’s beings
Albeit insignificant by our standards
Had been just moments before, foraging, then fleeing, and then dying.

I wondered what fear had gripped that unfortunate creature as
The end came upon him.

I turned to the wall and slept
