Futile Funeral

Poem By Jessica Stubbs

Futile funeral
Full of feverish people
wanting out of the doors
Don't want to deal with their ever increasing sores
'What's the point? ' They ask
All in their masks
Drinking from their flasks
Trying to drink away the pain
Acting like they care
Acting like they have good thoughts to share
They just want to leave
And let that body rot
In the ground of the others that have been forgot
What a pity
A Futile Funeral it is
Yes indeed

Comments about Futile Funeral

Many people throng at funerals, not all with equal grief. Some do just as a matter of courtesy. At the end of the day, few mourn from heart as the demised goes into oblivion by and by.... Yet, I think, the people who make time to gather at the funerals deserve thanks. Going through the long comments of Bri Edwards was interesting. Not sure if he deliberately prolonged his comments.
cool poem. i like it! (maybe you would care to read my FUN-eral, recently submitted; not quite the same as your poem, but.........) in the lines: ....Don't want to deal with their ever increasing sores 'What's the point? ' They ask All in their masks Drinking from their flasks i don't get what you mean by sores here. at first i thought you might mean the pain they were feeling as mourners, but THEN, after reading the rest of the poem, it didn't sound like their grief amounted to much. AND at first i thought flasks were not typical to see at funerals! ! ! but then i realized (duh) that you had used the word flasks, not wine glasses or beer bottles. i guess when i see flasks used in movies, they are generally used by sneaky (discreet?) drinkers, like people who don't want to purchase alcohol after they get into a football stadium (where outside drinks and food are prohibited) , in the back of a school bus carrying underage drinkers, or at a FUNERAL! thanks for sharing. oh! did you mean to repeat the poem right after itself (i believe with no changes) ? ? i liked it........the repetition, though i only needed to read it once. i especially enjoyed: ...Acting like they care Acting like they have good thoughts to share They just want to leave And let that body rot In the ground of the others that have been forgot What a pity p.s. thanks for the rhymes!
