God Is Love
“God is love”, it is they say,
by Mirza Beg
And “too the words”, they add,
Yet all the world day by day,
Depicts words of love so sad,
As ‘tis love that always stains.
If God by love ‘nd for men’s sins,
Died th’ e’er glorious death with pains,
Why love yet to darkness leans,
‘Nd with disdain, in heart remains?
Oh! Men! No more let thine tear,
Which thou earn for thine own deed,
Be spilt on earth, where joy’s rare.
Don’t make thine love a feeble creed,
Nor a jaunt, that lives and dies so swiftly,
For ‘tis thine lord, ‘tis His vow heavenly.
