Godsick

Today I rattled like a newspaper
As I walked along the road.
Today I felt I’d opened like a hole.

Plastic blew inside me in the wind. I was filled with weather.

Today I washed my face and the water was noisy.
Speaking to my tongue as I drank it with breakfast.
Chilled like a basin.

My teeth cried they were drowning. My tongue did little to help.

My skin sat sadly on my bones.
Something about me had never been so alone.

Because last night
I dreamed my upturned face saw upstairs
In a house. The light inside hung linen like a coat.

Looking up, I saw a room full of breath
And you, standing upright in your distance from me.
