Goodbye Mom

I was at work one day
when they made that call to me
to tell me mom was fading fast
and soon to be set free

As I drove to be there with her
all I could do is think
if I had been a better son
would she be here with me

I held her in my arms
and looked her in the eyes
I told her that I loved her
till we both began to cry.

I wanted her to know
that I would be ok
I would try hard to be that man
that she had tried to raise

I had done my best to shame her
I had tried to let her down
No matter what a bum I was
she was the one that stuck around

She was a friend and mother
a deep well of strength
She always had the answers
and always time for me

I held her in my arms
and looked her in the eyes
I told her that I loved her
till all I did was cry.

I wanted her to know
that it meant so much to me
the love that she had given
and the life she tried to lead

Her friends turned out to see her
to love her and let her go
they said she had stayed so long
cause she wanted us to know

How much she loved her family
the truth about her Faith
and how she put her trust
in our Lords Almighty Grace

“Tell My Dad I Love him”
“and Hug my grandpa too”
“Don’t worry mom about the kids”
“and I promise we’ll see you soon.”

I held her in my arms
and looked her in the eyes
I told her that I loved her
and tried to say “Goodbye.”

She held on till morning
and with her last bit of strength
she let go of this world
and it began to rain
