Graduate

Commencement proceedings are done
This Sunday afternoon and wind blows,
Rustling the green leaves of the trees
Beyond the vacant athletic field;
Among the first to emerge now
From the college auditorium,
A young woman in cap and gown,
Her brown hair flopping slightly and
Long legs striding with purposeful grace,
Walks quickly across the parking lot
As raindrops fall from puffy clouds
That envelop the sky overhead.
