Gravity Pulls

Standing on the edge tonight
I stare into that familiar pit,
Curving away on both sides,
Disappearing into the mists,
The greyness of the earth
Partioned with the darkness within,
Gravity pulls.

Pinpoints punctuate that endless canvas,
I stretch in vain towards them
Knowing they’re all out of reach,
Teasingly twinkling temptingly guiding
Steps off and into the air
That all light is sucked into,
Gravity pulls.

Syllables click with no air to hit,
I mouth the secrets to no one,
The word that pulls
Like moths to a flame,
The doomed to that dark edge,
Snapshots of sullen smiles as
Gravity pulls.
