Great

Poem By Gideon Ryan

When I was young and men were still considered great
Great meant wearing a suit and growing a mustache
So I bought a suit and shaved less
When I was older and men were still considered great
Great meant going to Ivy and getting a degree
So I bought a diploma and hung out
When I was greying and men were still considered great
Great meant driving a foreign car and wearing a coat
So I rented a ride and borrowed a coat
When I was old and men were still considered great
I gave up... and settled on being a mere man
Family and hard work had went into earning my wrinkles
When i died and men were still considered great
All the men said here was a man, who was great.
