Habit

This poem written by Alexander Eichen.

dinner, breakfast,
lunch, repeat,

tears blur the veal

with every stir
come wasted years
that brought me to the meal

afterwards, digesting
breathing
every moment a syllable
a sick taste
thinking
crying, sleeping

honey sugar cereal
berries and regret
I choke it down
with chocolate milk

before another table's set
