Had You Killed Yourself Before?

You were laid across two wooden chairs
because you denied yourself a couch
Had you killed yourself before?
Did you know just how disturbing it was going to be?
For us to find you sat upright
Was that black handkerchief placed on your face because you could not wait?
The running red river flowed until it left the room
The silence crept under the door
Had you killed yourself before?
It must have seemed quite ludicrous trying to get comfortable on rickety chairs
So you put a blanket there
Some poetry and red wine and an empty plate, perhaps that was the last meal,
Decorated an otherwise barren room
I did not know you lived in doom
But had you killed yourself before?
