Happier People

Happier People

When I go back home
And nobody’s there
What do I say
To a room that’s bare
And where do I go
When I yearned to leave here
To snuff out a dream
That still remains clear
Of happier people
So dreary in dress
That tortured a nation
Content to confess
That we were the future
But something went wrong
And happier people
Lost hope and moved on
While they made me angry
For selling their souls
What I’ll never forget
Is loving them so
So when I don’t see them
Meeting me there
What will I do
To settle the scare
Of dying alone
In a nation that cares
Too much to be happy
Too little to spare
