He Pitched Towards Sodom
Two growing clans in way back east
were struggling hard to co-exist
The older leader thought it time
no longer should their flocks combine
'Let's split the land, I'll tell you what,
you have first choice ' he said to Lot,
'You take whatever you think best,
I'll gladly move and take the rest'
Lot was not principled and strong
his greedy choice did not take long
Here is my chance for worldly gain
I'll choose the cities of the plain!
So Abraham took to the hills
aware that Lot faced many ills
Not thinking deep of what would come
Lot pitched his tent towards Sodom
Abraham had a confidence
that God would be his providence
He lived secure in covenant
the Lord would bless where're he went
But Lot just did not understand
he'd got his blessings second hand
Through Abraham the grace was passed
left to himself, Lot couldn't last
So what became of our friend Lot?
Well all the warnings he forgot
At first, after he'd pitched his tent
by camel train to work he went
Lot's business soon grew very great
before long he was working late
His wife said, 'Lot, that is enough,
let's move to town with all our stuff.'
But Sodom's great prosperity
was matched by gross depravity
Lot, vexed in spirit, realised
his faith in God was compromised
For what he thought to gain in life
exposed his daughters and his wife
His little ones with smiles and curls
Turned into teenage party girls
Sodom's programs on TV
were full of promiscuity
Perversions came in countless ways
the city leaders all were gays!
And so with no restraint or shame
alternate lifestyle was their game
Why did I bring my loved ones here?
Lot sensed destruction very near.
But God withheld the punishment
to see if Sodom would repent
There were not ten who righteous stood
to save the city by their good
And though before Lot used to pray
he found it harder every day
His girl's fiancé’s scorned his word
the danger warnings seemed absurd
So at the time for fire to fall
Lot got at last his wake up call
'It's time to leave! ', the angels said
'Just run, don't look or turn your head'
Lot and his girls ran as they ought
His wife looked back and turned to salt
Though he escaped...........life took its toll
Lot gained the world..........but lost his soul!
