His Mind

If you could read his mind
What do you think you'd find
Would you see a lonely child
One that's easily beguiled

Or there could be an old man
One that's feeling less than
The man he imagined he'd be
Due to things he didn't foresee

Maybe a casualty of unrequited love
Or something else he was deprived of
Does he see though rose colored glasses
And wonder why as his life passes

Perhaps stumble across his hidden fears
Ones that accumulated over the years
Though they cause him doubt
He absolutely refuses to talk about

No longer the powerful white knight
He is succumbing to his kryptonite
Not really feeling potent nor virile
He...Oh look...a squirrel
