Holding On Too Long

I’ve been scratching out a living
Maybe there was not enough giving
So much was misunderstood
And it led to so much no good
You may call me soft spoken
Unable to tell if I’m broken
I don’t know what I was thinking
Our ship never came in and I’m sinking
You could have told me
You didn’t want to hold me
It looks like I’m lost in dreamland
Into the grasp of the devil’s hand
But if one door closes
Don’t send me roses
I’ve been holding on too long
Standing on the edge of a place I don’t belong
There’s no trying to change you
Like my old furniture I can’t rearrange you
Are we done trying?
Are we done crying?
I’m ready to jump into a whirlpool
For too long I’ve played the fool
My life has been a vicious circle anyway
My nerves has started to fray
And I been holding on too long
Don’t want this to turn into a drinking song
