I Confess

I confess,
I've thought about it,
once or twice.

When the day was a mess
and the nights were a pain,
there were times, when I wanted to
unlock the chain,
I've thought about it,
once or twice.

On my private island
of CDs and books,
my eyes have drifted
to the boat and the oars,
only once or twice.

I confess!
who hasn't?
when there were no tears to shed,
when I've been lying, tucked up in bed,
cradling an aching head,
I've thought about it,
once or twice.

Standing in queues
listening to folk scream and shout,
bickering old bags
and macho wind-bags.
My fists were clenched,
my head ached,
I admit, I've thought about it
once or twice.

Are you sure you haven't?
in the deepest despair,
the most ferocious ires,
you wish you could unlock the chain?
Come on you've thought about it,
once or twice.
