I No Longer Have Lines Of Poetry When I Walk

I no longer have lines of poetry when I walk
I no longer have long silences
In which I hear myself speak as I move calmly and surely
The need to concentrate on the walking itself
The testing of the pain
The effort I must make not to fall
All this
Takes my freedom and poetry from me

I walk now with less pleasure
I still walk
But the music and meaning
Are not with me
The walking I loved is no more.
