I Sailed My Ship (Version 2)

I sailed my ship to my true love's harbour
I sang my songs 'neath her windowsill
She gave me bread and her blood-red wine
She promised my deepest need to fulfill

'Come', she said, 'take a walk on the sea
I lead the way to the promised land'
But winds were strong and my faith was weak
I sank out of reach from her loving hand

My ship is a wreck and the sails are torn
I'm stranded on a dark and lonesome shore
It feels like the sun goes down on me
And I'm not even close to the door

I bow my head to the cloven feet
I spend my time behind prison bars
But I long to dance in the streets of gold
On higher grounds 'neath the heavenly stars

In dreams I hear something gently whisper
'Be not afraid, you can walk on the sea
Break your chains and prison bars
And you'll dance on golden streets with me'

Beautifully done Goran. I love the rhymetic nature in the way you write and the rhyming really flows well. Great Job. Lynn
Very good this one. A couple of unexpected twists that resonate well. Adeline
You can walk on the poetry sea, a good one, Goran. Thanks.
