I Won

I can shoot and score but cannot dribble.
As a child I never had trouble keeping the ball,
After all, I played with the wind, and it was
Not enough to knock the ball from my hand.

I can shoot and score but cannot dribble.
My sisters didn't care much for basketball.
My brothers were too young to care at all.
And neighbors didn't walk upon the land.

I can shoot and score but cannot dribble.
My net was a ‘cycle rim on a coconut tree
And o'er the years grew much taller than me,
That before Ivan knocked it down,
I was shooting at the feet of God.

I can shoot and score but cannot dribble.
And for years in the same I treated love,
Never kept in hand, let go, only rimmed
Around my heart but never soaked-in...
And then I met her and could not let go.
I shoot no more, don't care to score;
I won!
