I Would Rather Fade Away

Poem By Ivy Christou

If my world were about to end
I would probably let my existence fade away,
Without saying a last word
Or writing a letter to mark my presence.
I would rather disappear as quietly and namelessly
As I came in the first place.
All I hope is that my love for everyone
would not be a secret by then
or a scared assumption,
and that clouds are see-through
when you stare at them from above.

Comments about I Would Rather Fade Away

It reminded me (only abstractly of Maria Polydouri) . I loved it! Come back, wherever you may be.
You really do have a wonderful sight of heart.Love Duncan
This is beautiful, Ivy and I agree with Sean that the last few lines are superb. I would change the word 'was' to 'were' (to go with 'if') but other than that, you have written a lovely poem. Raynette
Ivy, this is a great poem even though you write about the world ending. I love the last few lines: 'and that clouds are see-through when you stare at them from above.' What a beautiful thought.
I couldn't agree more, and applaude your ideas. Very well written, Ivy. I'll be looking forward to more of your thoughts.
