If I Could Write Words

Poem By Spike Milligan

If I could write words
Like leaves on an autumn forest floor,
What a bonfire my letters would make.

If I could speak words of water,
You would drown when I said
'I love you.'

Comments about If I Could Write Words

The note of humour, the imaginative potential are rare and precious in this poem.
His jesting mind - a special gift to the poetic world.
a proper no frills straight from the heart love poem
And to confirm his sense of humour he asked for these words to be carved on his headstone I TOLD YOU I WAS ILL
So do I! Spike Milligan was, unfortunately, a largely unrecognised genius, a unique observer of life, a wordsmith extraordinaire and an exceptional humorist. RIP mate!
