In Old Caherbarnagh

In old Caherbarnagh you will not find gold
But wealthy people live there or so I've been told
Cash crops in the Fall they don't have for to reap
But the hill farmers there make lots of money in sheep
On the stony bracken hills not a steer or a cow
And they are far too rough and too steep for the plough
But the black face horned hill sheep thrive on them and hill sheep farming pay
And the mountain farmers make good profit from sheep from little outlay
Their biggest cost can come after a mountain fire
When they have to replace burnt fence posts and sheep wire
In old Caherbarnagh gold never was found
And only bracken and heather grow on the high ground
But for his labour the hill farmer well paid
On mountain sheep there is profit to be made.
