In Search Of Perfection

If only I were perfect,
Then I would stop sinning
And all my foibles will be gone in a flash of a second
Leaving no trace of a shadow on my being
Because I would have been cleansed from every stain
And guilt will have no place to reign in me

If only I were perfect,
Then I would stop whining,
Whining about everything - mundane and inane
Things that imbue my soul with complaints that have no end,
About aches and pains that never seem to unwind
And nerves that are always on edge

If only I were perfect,
Then I will be free from hypocrisy
Those masks that hide my true feelings and idiosyncrasies
Alas! I will be free from feigning what I am yet to become
And my flaws will no longer expose my imperfection
Because I will be perfect indeed

If only I were perfect,
Then I will have no need of writing this poem
Because I will hear no wrong, see no wrong and do no wrong
But be that as it may, I wouldn't quit trying to be perfect
Even though I may never be
Until He, who's perfect comes to make me perfect.
