In Steelband Land

The sun rose one morning,
And bellowed to a cloud;

Did you hear him?

“Let your rain fall on Poui
Saturating her greenness
Into blooms so many”

Did you hear him?
Did you know this?

For kiskadee who bare,
So ashamedly her belly would,
Coy at the splendor of
Your munificence;

Did you hear him?
Did you know this?
Would you believe?

And kites flying high,
From yards of string,
Wishing to fly higher;
Would stop to gape,
And tangled be,
In her fragrance;

Did you hear him?
Did you know this?
Would you believe?
Did you ever think?

And wind would bow down
Sighing “Oh Heavens be
I hear the sound of pan so sweet
Wafting with my sister Breeze”

Did you hear him?
Did you know this?
Would you believe?
Did you ever think?
This would have happened
In steelband land?
