Do words shift and change,
When they take their flight,
Like a subtle shift in air,
Like shadows in the light?
Or do they simply stand,
Like centuries of dust,
Frozen in the minutes,
Immortalized in rust?
Do they ever reach
The ears they're meant to soothe,
The hearts they're meant to break,
The souls whose tears run smooth?
Or do they simply fade,
Like shadows in the night?
A flicker long forgotten
Until the morning light.
