Independence I Reclaim
Toss myself upon the cushioned coils
Stretching limbs as far as they will reach
Claim quietly, the voice in my head, “mine! ”
Try not to boast my excitement, not to taunt him
With these things he cannot have, the bed, me,
Catch myself gushing proud between spells of weeping.
Two weeks before, buying a car
Without the burden of his opinion or name
Now, a bed, to write and rest my head.
Small steps towards my inevitable next chapter
Independence trampling a path, staking claim,
I strive to reinvent myself, a fantastic disaster.
