Introspection Of The Heart

You might try to stand outside of yourself
And look at what is in your heart
If you are able to be honest about what you see
You could find what tears you apart

Look quite closely for selfishness
Follow it through the day
You could find you're destroying relationships
By being in your own narrow way

Self pity is often observed
You're wallowing in a vile brew
You are the author of you're own discontent
Swimming with a pitiful stew

Anger is a dangerous termite
That can devour you whole
If you believe in it's efficacy-
You've been taken: hook, line and soul

You might see that you're filled with hate
Also with fear and dread
These two are often together
The holder's next stop may be dead

You might try to stand outside yourself
And look at what is in your heart
If you find habits of your own destruction
It's time to create a new start
