Island Gems

Wake to the chatter of parrots
flashing emerald and red
On a fruited cherry tree.

By the shore, the children
Launch some tiny turtles
Over the swells of the deep, deep sea.

Violet orchids bloom on mossy boughs
Where the grassland meets the forest
And the air is softly scented.

My cockatoo flies over the gorge
His call resounds, I'll be back,
Be back, back one day.
