King Winter

Autumn, wearing laurel for a crown,
clothed in leaves of gold and brown,
stands head bowed before his victor;
awaits the judgement of King Winter.

An icy blast of wind topples his crown,
sending shivers down Autumn's spine.
Trembling, the leaves begin to fall
revealing his nakedness to all.

Nature recoils at such a shameful act;
covers the scene with a garb of linen white.
Winter sounds the fanfare of victory,
as he ascends his throne of infamy.

Earth, for a season must slumber
until Spring is once again the victor,
bringing forth life, creating a new order
and dazzling our eyes with its wonder
