Last Prayer

Poem By Joe Hall

God if you truly exist listen to my plea
Please take back this life which was given to me

I no longer wish to be here, I no longer wish to stay
I give this life back to you, I give it all away

Everything that was good in me has long since gone
To my loving children I’ve passed most of it on

I’m an empty vessel of the man I used to be
Please take back this life which was given to me

Take this life back and do with it as you please
Give it to someone who’s more deserving than me

This empty life is just too much to bear
Please if you exist, grant me this last prayer

Amen

Puzzled

If life were a puzzle with intricate pieces in it
Mine would be a piece that simply wouldn’t fit

The square pieces would be round, the round ones square

The Question

I gazed into the darkest abyss and was amazed to see
A familiar looking face gazing back at me

In a familiar voice he cried out as if in pain

The Trade

He fell from the graces of God above
By trading his soul for the one he loved
It was shear desperation that fateful day
