Le Jadinier (The Gardener)

Daintily you move alongs the garden path
Stopping now and then only to smell the roses
And the lilies
And the magnolias

You smile your honey-bee smile at the daisies
And the irises
And the peonies

And whisper softly to the tulips
While you lovingly caress the cherry blossoms
And gingerly pick the violets

Gathering them up into your basket
You step lightly over moss-covered stones
Carefully avoiding the thorns
And weeds
And fallen leaves

All this I watch from the garden's edge
All the time wondering why it is
You can't love
Wildflower me
