Let Old Bones Lie

Stumbling down our rocky paths,
We fell together;
misery and his companion.
I could have been anyone,
a nameless face
lost in your shadow.
I wandered beside you
grasping tightly a hand
reluctantly offered,
cherishing each pebble
upon which we stood,
naively perceiving
precious elements
from granules of sand.
by gleaming Fool's gold,
I fell a step behind.
The crumbling ground
beneath your feet
buried me.
you left me to suffocate
beneath the debris.
You did not turn,
but continued along
your path of destruction...
Why now,
that I have found peace,
do you search for a shovel?
