Life

Poem By Thelma Murphy

Remember dearest child
We gave you life.
But that is all we can give you.

We can help you grow and mature.
But we can not live your life for you.

We can help ease the bumps and bruises.
And help you over the hard spots.
But we can not eliminate them for you.

Only you hold the key to your destiny
In your hands -- not your parents.

What you want for yourself is your
Choice and decisions not ours.
We can only hope that it is a wise choice.

What happens in life, we can not always control.
But remember dearest child, we gave you but one life.
And that is all we can give you.
What you do with that life is up to you.

Aging

My hair is grey now and my body broken.
My mind is not as sharp as it once was.
But I have time to reflect on the dreams
and hopes I once had.

Child Abuse

Please dear child do not cry, for your pain is running deep.
Your parents do not understand the hurt they have caused.

You try so hard to please but failed.
