Standing in the doorway
by Leah Ayliffe
Wearing nothing but his black sweater
Not sure whether to stay, whether it was enough
He lulled me over saying
'little bird, come back to me'
'You were sultry jazz mixed with the best of rock n roll'
I said 'thanks kid'
as he put his cigarette between my lips
I took a drag
Pulling away I stared and exhaled
'for me, you were like a dream on fire'
He handed me a glass of red wine that was waiting beside the bottle on the night stand.
Music still playing,
we started swaying into the break of dawn.
