Little Boys

Society removes their nerves
pulls them out one long slim string at a time
then their hearts
eaten in stews and soufflés
their eyes burnt out by bullies
blinded by false visions
their skulls sliced open
buzzards feed on their brains
arms and legs lacerated
by fingers and fangs
until their souls escape
horrified and howling
sometimes they linger
for a century
sometimes they dance
with a rope or belt
their saviors

Morbid, true, stinging.
