Long Shadows

This shore was new once, the adventures like the dunes- gone.
What heights were reached, the word 'impossible' was never known
What great shadows were cast by those shifting possibilities
The dunes like dreams were made of momentary wishful things

Energy spent from a seemingly endless pool, fed by a joyful spring
With immortal vitality and legs flush and fed by youth's crimson engine
We did climb those countless mounds and grew golden in the sun
Our carefree hearts could never imagine, this time of long shadows

What a classy write! That's so true of life. Once.....we all have this word in our life. A word filled with a deep sense of nostalgia. From youthful energy to a life of long shadows, life changes so fast. How we long for the times gone by! Awesome imagery you have used to describe a period of energetic youth offering endless possibilities.
What a beautiful flow of language I can feel the energy, the aliveness, and the joy of youth through these words And then something changes in the last verse looking back how could we possibly know? We get hints in the first line and in the dunes like dreams were made of momentary wishful things The truth is revealed and although there is a sense of sadness there is an underlying sense of spaciousness and freedom in discovering the truth that's my perspective. A really satisfying poem
