Lovesick Johnny

The rhododendrons flowering in the garden
The willy wagtail sing on wattle tree
But lovesick Johnny feeling so unhappy
He pines for love that never was to be.

He told his friends how he loves Linda Addams
Young Linda with blue eyes and golden hair
He also said that she would grow to love him
Though Linda for him never seemed to care.

He framed his photograph of lovely Linda
And hung it on the wall above his bed
And he keeps persisting with the silly notion
That she will fall for him when she grows tired of Ted.

His so called mates they only laugh at Johnny
With friends like them who needs an enemy?
Behind his back they say the 'stupid fellow'
And they never show him any sympathy.

She politely refused his offer to wine and dine her
But he find fresh hope when she greet him with a smile
He thinks he loves her for her charm and beauty
Whilst in reality he loves her for her guile.

How can you love someone who does not love you
To someone indifferent how can you be true?
For in true love there must be mutual feelings
And love's a thing that must be felt by two.

What Johnny feels is mere infatuation
Where foolish passion is love never shine
Butterflies are fluttering in the sunlit garden
And for one who to him feels indifferent he pine.

He framed his photograph of lovely Linda
And he hung it on the wall above his bed
And his so called mates they only laugh at Johnny
And say that he is silly in the head.
