Madonna/Whore

She strutted casually, almost obtrusively
Not as a light bulb, nay, something stronger
Say a halogen lamp-
The one they use for wedding coverages in the 90’s

I try to listen to the sounds those glossy lips are making
While admiring her avant-garde outfit
I wondered how many more tattoos are hidden
After I counted three on her exposed skin

She says I want someone I can take to momma
For dinner on a Sunday night after service
And yet can be paraded at Session Road
For ogles and friendly curses

She says I long for someone who likes a boat ride
On a warm day in summer
And yet can dig a wild raft adventure
On that perilous northern river

She says I need someone who can wet towels
And who can wear long cascading satin dresses
And yet can dance with a chair
And gyrate atop party tables

She says I desire someone who can lie like a nun
And receive like a cotton pillow
And yet can moan like a cat
When she does the wheelbarrow

She says if it’s one or the other
My cup is half empty
But if it’s one and the other
My cup’s fuller than full.
