Mail Pouch Tobacco Barns

Poem By Marilyn Lott

While driving on Route 66 you'll see
What is called Mail Pouch Tobacco barns
Each one is so unique
They all have such wonderful charm

There is tobacco ads painted
In huge letters on their sides
You see them as you travel along
They seem to have so much pride

They were created for the Sunday drive
You remember back some time ago
When you'd go to church then take a drive
It was a place for the family to go

Ten cents a bag that tobacco was
Along about eighteen ninety-seven
Can you imagine that price today?
Tobacco chewers would be in heaven

But it's fun to see these old buildings
The nostalgia so strong with these barns
So if you get a chance, folks
See the barns with that old-fashioned charm!
