Memories

Faded old photographs
In a box in a drawer
Memories of the roads
I’ve traveled before
Mementoes tucked away
In a corner on a shelf
Now just token reminders
Of my former self

An image in the mirror
Changed by time
A lifetime of stories
Behind every line
A brow furrowed by worry
Eyes shadowed by tears
And evidence of laughter
Shared over the years

Time passed so slowly
When first it began
I rushed and I scurried
I hurried and ran
Impatiently I waited
For life to pass by
Unaware it would happen
In the blink of an eye

Fore time gained speed
Without any warning
I paid no attention
To the tides that were turning
Now here in my twilight
With awe and amazement
I look back and reflect
On how quickly the years went

I’ve learned time is precious
And with all that has passed
I know only my memories
Were intended to last
I hold each one dear
Days of misery and bliss
And feel blessed to have lived
A life such as this
