Mermaid Song 6

Long, shadowy the hand strokes it -while the other
Weighs up this flowing night cascade on the shoulder
Waving down to the tip of a breast as it slides
To the start of a hip's bright and subsiding lines-
And skilfully resting, brown snake upon the glow
-Gaping on the pliant fire of twin flesh below
That were slowly kneaded, pebbles tawny and fair -
Of lust and in painful search of her own delight,
Abruptly averts the narrow brow from the light
And down the uncovered sides lets slip her rash hair.
