Midnight Thoughts Of Dreaming

When you fall asleep, you get
a feeling of relief, you set
upon a journey that takes you far away,
from the sad reality you face from day to day.

Away from the troubles and despair,
given to you from those who don't really care.
Sleep puts your mind at ease
because there's no one there for you to please.

When you fall asleep, you feel
as though everything in your dreams are real,
it doesn't matter if there are monsters, ghosts or things that make you jump,
because at any time you can always wake up.

If only living real life was that easy.
You could just skip the parts that make you feel queasy.
You could live your life from day to day,
knowing that all your troubles will just melt away.

But I guess in real life dreams don't always plateau,
If given the chance our aspiring dreams might grow.
Whereas in sleep our dreams don't amount to anything.

When you fall asleep, you know
your realistic dreams won't grow,
so,
dreaming while awake won't leave you taunted,
instead you'll realise your full potential
and maybe even get something you've always wanted.

An insightful piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely penned in good rhyme scheme with conviction. Thanks for sharing Eliza.
A pragmatic write! Loved the lucidity expression: When you fall asleep, you feel/as though everything in your dreams are real/it doesn't matter if there are monsters, ghosts or things that make you jump…. Thanks for sharing! You may like to read my poem 'Ode to My Conscience'. Thank you
