Missed Sanity

Poem By Lawrence S. Pertillar

Missed sanity I wish,
Was still there humanity shared.
Remembered when times,
People showed how much they cared.
Today many feed on greed just to lust.
Gone is honesty.
And disappearing from us is trust.

Vanity is everywhere.
Glaring at us to discuss,
Who is doing who with whom.
And doing you know what.
Cougars chasing cubs.
Exposing cracks on butts.

Where has gone respect.
And values once obtained.
No one sings songs to understand.
And rap tracks sound the same.
No more is there innocence.
Children born first learn to cuss.
Taught by parents who blame the schools.
If their kids lack discipline.
And act more like street thugs.

Misplaced are priorities.
Few strive for quality lives to
And those who talk about,
How things used to be.
Are the ones who were heard to
Others who tried...
Expressing their lives,
With pride, identity and dignity.
Instead of the insanity,
Created by those crazed.

Today missed sanity,
Is thought by the young...
To be an old tale told to sell
A myth too overdone.

Few believe people used their minds,
To actually think independently.
Since evidence of this,
Is seldom observed.
And some young people curious,
Perceive thoughts to think...
Is a skill they have not yet,
To learn...
How that is done to successfully.
