Mortal Sorrow

Poem By Shanto Armonde

I sit in waiting,
To be purged of the poison
Of mortal sorrow that snakes
Through my weary veins.

Slowly consuming
My very humanity.
The emptiness manifests
All-devouring.

But before long
The ominous clouds of an
Impending tempest obscures
The heavenly rays.

I see the skies close
Before my desperate sight,
As all hopes of redemption
Are lost forever.

A stray tear grazes
My dry, unforgiven face.
Cries of grief go unheeded,
And rescue recedes.

Broken and beaten,
I surrender my lost soul,
And cast my hopes upon those
Dark tides of despair.
