Mourning Glory

They lowered the coffin,
The minister said his piece,
A tear or two were shed
And hugs exchanged.
I smiled at you and
You smiled back at me
As off they drifted,
Each step prearranged.

We stayed behind and
Watched them fill the hole
And shared some memories
Of a time gone past
We saw her trapped
In silence for all time
And thanked the Lord
The job was done at last.
