My America

My America is different from yours it did not start on the New York Shores. My America is root in whips and chains I am a descendant of the American slave. But my roots are strong because even out of oppression I have still grown. I drink the water of poverty and I feed on the racist's hate. But neither will destroy me because my soul is awake. Awake to the fact that America fears the color of my skin. America fears my determination because they know no matter what one day I will win. So call my children selfish and savage and train them to kill one another. They will one day all come together. And win that day come we will show you all united we stand and we will never fall. Your song ends with land of the free and home of the brave. I am a descendant of the American slave and this is my America too.
