My Father’s Team

My battlecry
In a green & white strip
When I was five
Was “Come On The Celtic”.

My father stood
In his faith and his pride
Watch me kick a ball
With all my might.

On Maryhill Road
Walking down the street
I was Jimmy Johnstone
Gola boots on my feet.

On a Saturday night
How my father roared
When watching the highlights
Watching the Celtic score.

And he talked of John Hughes
The hero of his heart
Who played in running shoes
On the turf at Celtic Park.

On the terracing at Parkhead
Both wearing our green
We cheered on the Celtic,
God’s favourite team.
