My Final Goodbye Notes

It's the fear
of an early departure
mixed with knowledge
of things left unsaid.

I sit biting my lip
as I write this.
I don't notice the pain
till I've bled.

Do I say
''Goodbye'' or ''See ya later''?
Overwhelmed by this
feeling of dread.

They all know that my heart
was made for them
(or made by them
as I've often said) .

I must go with the plan of returning
still I plan so I leave no regrets.
I have written my final goodbye notes
with the hopes they will never be read.

That final stanza is the kicker. Well-done. -chuck
MARY...THERE SHOULD BE NO GOODBYE NOTES READ NOR INFERENCES OF GOODBYE SPOKE...I HAVE READ MUCH OF YOUR WORK SINCE MY JOINING PH, AND ALL I CAN TELL YOU BASED ON MY OWN PERSONAL BATTLE WITH A GRAVE ILLNESS, AND THE FIRE IN THE WORDS I HAVE READ IN YOUR WORK...IN MY EYES & HEART, MARY, YOU ARE THE EPITOMY OF THE TRUE COMPETITOR, WHICH AS WE BOTH KNOW CANNOT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN A GRIPPING FIGHT THAT ACHIEVES UNPARALLELED VICTORY....YOUR POETRY TELLS ME YOU ARE EXACTLY WHAT I JUST DESCRIBED....I 'M CONFIDENT YOU'VE BEEN FIGHTING...NOW IS WHEN YOU KICK IT UP TO THE HIGHEST POINT YOU CAN REACH, , , YOUR WILL...YOUR PRAYER...OUR PRAYERS..AND THE FACT THAT THERE ARE SO MANY SURE SITUATIONS BY SCADS OF SURE ALLEGED EXPERTS WHO ARE WONDERING TONIGHT HOW THEY COULD HAVE BEEN SO WRONG...YOU, MARY WHO I AM MESSAGING IN THE MONTH OF THE VIRGIN MARY SHOULD FEEL EXTRA PROTECTED FROM THIS DAY FORWARD.AS YOU FIGHT THE FIGHT, AND WRITE A BEST SELLING HARDBOUND ABOUT IT YEARS& YEARS FROM NOW..FRANK AND NOW IS WHEN YOU TAKE THE BATTLE THROUGH
Mary, I'd like to think 'see ya later' would be more appropriate, less feeling of finality than 'goodbye' in my opinion. Anyway, really good poem, it makes you think... Brian
A very dear write of facing the depth of one's love when facing the possible worst... This touched me, esp. the fourth stanza. May I use that on my future headstone? ! Glad that you are finished with the worst now, and recovering more each day. Love, Esther : ]
Let it all float away Mary. It wil better sooner than you think. Sarah Wasserstein
