Locked deep within my heart
by Irina Whitford
Are memories and pain
You came into my life
And then you left again.
I held you for the longest time
And kept you close to me
I wished, I prayed, I cried with rage
I didn’t want to set you free.
I took, and held your hand in mine
I kissed, and touched your face
But everything I tried to do
Couldn’t keep you in this place.
I sang to you, your ears un-hearing
Your eye’s un-seeing, your heart not beating.
I wished I could have traded places
Seeing so much pain on many faces,
But we shall meet again…
In another life-time.
