My Little Girl

One cool crisp April night
You decided the time was right
To make your grand appearance
For us it was love at first sight

The Dr. said it was too early
You needed three more weeks to grow
They worried your lungs were not mature enough
to breathe upon their own

You came into our lives
With your daddy by my side
They said 'you have a daughter'
with excitement in their eyes

We couldn't hold you and to touch
you was through glass
Our lives would never be the same
Reality had hit at last

I sat beside your cradle and made
God this silent plea
I asked him to watch over you and
give you a chance with me

I knew from that moment on
The decision was in his hands
Whatever he had planned
I would try to understand

You seemed to know we needed you
The fight that you began
Stunned everyone around you
No explanation they had on hand

To do it over again
I would not change a thing
The years of joy and tears you see
To me, means everything

We're alike in so many ways
We finish each others thoughts
At times our opinions may clash
But nothing can tear us apart

Now you are a Mom
With a baby girl of your own
The joy and pride your feeling
Is something you've never known

I see the way she looks at you
The love she shows through her eyes
When Kallie sees you walk into the room
Her face could light the sky

Some might say that you're too young
for a child of your own
If they could see the way you live for her
Their doubts would soon be gone

I love you my darling Michelle
With all my heart and soul
Please never worry that you and Kallie
will ever stand alone.
