My New Baby

Poem By Velvet Thorn

Two weeks old
Tiny but perfect
Small enough to be cradled
In a two-year-old's hands

On your four-year-old brother
Giant though he is
You nuzzle and play
For hours, he'll stay

Blind trust, a tiny nose
Searching me, your human mother
For nourishment
A little bottle of white liquid
You reach up and hold tightly
With miniature paws
Eyes closed, ears wiggling
Until you've had your fill
Then, as you curl up,
The quiet clicks of a satisfied purr
Miniscule ball of fur,
You captivate me.
